Explore new opportunities for the metallurgical industry at Steel 2023

Megatrends that shape the steel industry, polish – Ukrainian cooperation in times of war or green financing – those are only three out of twenty planned discussion topics during the first edition of the European Steel Congress 2023, which will take place on 18-19 of September at the International Congress Centre in Katrowice. Participation in the congress is free of charge.

The event will gather leading experts, scientists and industrialists at the same time and place – this will give great potential for developing concrete solutions for the national steel industry. Because as we know -  Poland needs solid solutions in this regard in order to, among other things, become independent of external supplies and have a “plan B” in case supply chains break.

  • As the Ministry of State Assets, we want to shape the modern steel industry within state-owned companies. A project is being implemented to build a new electric and environmentally friendly steel and rolling mill in Ruda Śląska at a cost of 5 billion zlotys. I hope that through the congress a platform will be created for the exchange of knowledge, experience and inspiration for all recipients and users of the steel market – emphasized Marek Wesoły, Secretary of State of the Ministry of State Assets, Government‘s Plenipotentiary for the Transformation of Energy Companies and Coal Mining.

The two-day congress will showcase the latest technical and technological innovations in the steel industry – in the field of steel production, as well as its use in the construction or energy processes. The event's topics will include issues related to the future of the Polish steel industry in the context of the European energy transition, as well as the formation of trends in the steel market during dynamic geopolitical changes.

  • Steel is essential in the construction, automotive, defense or road infrastructure sectors. Currently steel consumption in Poland exceeds our production capacity. We need to rebuild the supply chain. Capital from outside Europe (India, China, Iran, Japan, among others), should not generally be responsible for this industry. We would like to participate in this industry more strongly as a manufacturer and at the congress we would like to talk about the solutions that will lead to this – explained Tomasz Heryszek, President of the Board of the Węglokoks S.A., General Partner of the congress.

The event's program also includes panel discussions and speeches, which will address topics such as steel supply for the defense industry, the use of artificial intelligence in manufacturing, the hydrogen economy or the offshore sector as an investment in Poland and Europe.

Important participants in the event will also be young people - technical students who are on the threshold of their professional careers. During the congress they will be able to see the modernity of the steel industry and discover trends in the development of the metallurgical industry, as well as have the opportunity to present their fresh perspective on the current problems and concerns of the heavy industry.

  • We would also like to talk about what the steel industry can give to consumers and workers in the sector. We want to invite young people who are choosing their life path to participate. We want to showcase innovations in this industry affecting energy efficiency. It is worth mentioning that steel is part of the closed-loop economy. It is the only material that is 100 percent recyclable – added Marek Akciński, Vice-President of the Board for the Węglokoks Group.

The main objective of the European Steel Congress is to create a platform and conditions for the exchange of knowledge and industry experience, as well as a space for establishing new business relationships with steel industry entities.

  • We have the ambition to make it the most important event dedicated to steel not only in Poland, but also in Europe. Many CCI member companies operate in this industry. At the Congress, we want to present the knowledge of experts to show the strength and prospects of the steel industry. We have experience in building such events. We invite everyone to cooperate with us – concluded Tomasz Zjawiony, President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Katowice, organizer of the congress.

Participation in the event is free of charge. Registration is open until September 10, and the number of places is limited.

The organizer is the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Katowice, which for more than 30 years has taken initiatives to improve the competitiveness of Polish companies and increase their innovation.
